Jesus the original weirdo… when offered the opportunity to be the ruler of the world as far as he could see in all directions who, but a weirdo, would turn it down? When given the powers he had, who, but a weirdo, wouldn’t fill their bank account with all the gold in California? When women threw themselves at him, bowed down before him and washed his feet with their tears and hair, who, but a weirdo, wouldn’t have added them to his harem? When given the power to save his life from the most hideous and painful death ever imagined – being nailed to a cross and left to hang there until dead – who, but a weirdo would not escape?
The dictionary definitions of Weirdo and Weird really say it all:
Weirdo – A person who is considered strange to other people. This person may do strange things, so this person can be considered a "weirdo". A non-conformist who does not follow trends or a subculture. A true 'weirdo' will just do what they feel, and can get along with most people. This person does not actually conform to a stereotype.
Weird – involving or suggesting the supernatural; unearthly or uncanny.
After pondering the questions and considering the dictionary definitions above, the evidence is clear…Jesus was weird and definitely a weirdo.
That’s why this web site and this movement have begun.
Years after having been raised in a traditional Southern Baptist Church deep in the Heart of Texas, then spending years avoiding any kind of church, later attending a Presbyterian Seminary and being ordained as a minister in a non-traditional yet still Southern Baptist Church, I created for me Six Foundational Beliefs that form the foundation that I stand on today.
Everything works together for the Growth of me – and also for you!
Subscribe to the Keep Jesus Weird Blog and let’s go on this journey of discovery…together.
Love,
Mike
